Christian Prayer: It's All About You, Jesus

WHAT IS PRAYER?

Communication with Jesus.   Just like with any relationship, communication is key to building closeness and intimacy. Christian prayer is our communication with Jesus that builds our connection with Him. And like with any relationship, the more time we spend together, and the more honest we are, the better the relationship becomes. Again, just as in any relationship, the more we listen, the more trust we build and the more we learn about how to love the other person. This is the same with Jesus. We tend to see prayer as talk and miss the listening part. (Matthew 6:7)

A Conversation.  We have made prayer into a very solemn and serious activity. While at times it is necessarily that, most of the time, prayer is just talking to Jesus. He knows us, he knows our thoughts before we do, so there is no reason to censor what we say. All we have to do is talk from the heart, from the moment. He wants to know our joys, our sorrows, our confessions and our mundane daily throughts. He wants it all and He wants it real. (James 5:13; Col 4:2)

It's Raw, It's Real.   Since Jesus wants us to be continually praying about our entire life, our conversations with Him will be chats, heart-to-hearts, confessions and crying out to Him in times of pain and sorrow. (James 5:13; Matthew 26:36; 1 Samuel 1:10; Nehemian 1:4)
